What are the legal ramifications of not carrying workers' compensation insurance, should a claim arise? For better and for worse, the workers' comp system has become firmly entrenched in today's workplaces. In fact, in many states, employers are legally required to carry workers' compensation insurance for their workers.
But even where self-insurance is allowed, it is almost always a bad idea for small employers, since just one hefty claim could wipe out your business.
