Attract Telecommuters

With the unemployment rate at a 29-year low, firms need to be innovative in attracting top talent -- includingbeing amenable to restructuring jobs to bring in telecommuters.

"As the nature of work changes," points out Kathleen Durham of PosiTrends, "so must our approach to howthe job gets done as well as who does it and where." In many industries, the on-site employee is giving wayto "at home" workers.

She notes that the brightest individuals are taking control over how they work and that often includes usingtechnology and intellectual resources from a distance.

Also a boost to increased telecommuting is the fact that the cost of such essential tools as computers, modems, fax machines and printers continues to drop.
