Hot Tip: Board Conflict Resolution
To paraphrase a business cliché, a board where everyone thinks alike is a board where no one is thinking. As boardroom risks have increased, so has boardroom debate, but this is also more likely to dissolve into boardroom conflict. Good board leadership can help avoid and resolve boardroom battles, but sometimes outside advice can make the difference.
The National Center for Nonprofit Boards has produced a new booklet on cooling boardroom passions called Keeping the Peace: The Board's Role in Conflict Resolution. The 44-page publication is written by Marion Peters Angelica and, though targeted at nonprofit boards, offers tips of value to any boardroom. The cost is $30 for non-NCNB members. To order or for more information, call 800-883-6262 or visit the NCNB's Web site at www.ncnb.org/main.htm.
