Howdy Duty
If you're a manufacturer who exports, you may be missing out on money that can be refunded to you as part of U.S. Customs Service's duty drawback program. Duty drawback permits a 99% duty refund on imported materials used to manufacture products that are later exported. It also allows refunds on imported materials for domestic products if the manufacturer uses similar domestic materials to manufacture exports.
According to Purchasing magazine, only one in five eligible companies takes advantage of the drawback program. For more information, write for a free copy of "Drawback, A Duty Refund on Certain Exports," available from the Drawback and Bonds Branch, Office of Commercial Operations, U.S. Customs Service, 1301 Constitution Ave., Washington, DC 20229; or contact one of the regional offices located in Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York, and San Francisco.
