Heated Interest
In discussing Spire Corp.'s interest in going public ("A Fight to Harness the Sun," May), the article said that, "investment bankers have urged [Little] to rewrite his business plan to de-emphasize Spire's involvement in energy [photovoltaics, we presume], a field they say today's investors are wary of, and emphasize Spire's activity in the electronics industry."
It is ironic that investment bankers supposedly alert to investor sentiment, have been oblivious to investor interest in the PV industry. Our Photovoltaic Stock Index was up 140% in 1982 and 146% in the first five months of 1983. This outperformed every high-tech stock index that we know of in this time period.
