In Search Of The Real Sba
The article entitled "Will the Real SBA Please Stand Up?" (February) was, in my opinion, too kind to the Small Business Administration. In May of 1983, I applied for an SBA loan through my bank and, after incalculable hours of preparation and after investing considerable money in a "professional" SBA loan preparer, was horrified to find out that in order to get any type of SBA loan one had to have equity of an equal or greater amount to "back the loan." I do hope that Mr. Reagan, in his second term, disbands the SBA so that its false promises don't cause anyone else the grief and loss of revenue that I experienced in my ordeal. Banker Dean Treptow of Milwaukee has an innovative idea that should be adopted and supported on a guaranteed basis by our government. Let private enterprise succeed where government bureaucracy has failed.
