A Theory By Any Other Name
Something like Theory F permeates much of our big business. Businesses grow so large that safety and caution become more key to strategy than the entrepreneurial values that created the business. Then, the business protectors rather than the risk-takers or achievers are rewarded. And there is often a change of company style to white shirts and ties, reserved parking spaces, and consolidation of the company name to three or four letters.
While working for TRW, DOD, and USAF, my ideas were often suppressed. Luckily, my environment promoted an attractive escape mechanism. I took my "great idea" and started a company. I can relate to those Japanese engineers who have no opportunity to show up their exemployers. A healthy economy needs us little guys to stir up enough attention to keep big business awake and responsive.
