Quick and dirty. No time to read all the books you'd like? You're not alone. In fact, at least two companies are offering what they hope is a solution to your problem.
* Soundview Executive Book Summaries sends its subscribers two or three eight-page synopses of business books every month, along with a few one-page "quickie reviews." If you like what you read, you can order the books themselves from Soundview for list price plus a small mailing charge. Subscriptions to the summary service are $59.50 a year; a sample issue is free. Call (802) 453-4062.
* Macmillan Executive Summary Program provides five eight-page business-book summaries a month; the presentation is slightly classier than Soundview's, but so is the $99.95 price. For commuters and Walkman devotees, Macmillan also offers a series of 45-minute tapes, with two book summaries on each one. The cost is $119.40 a year for 13 tapes. For information about either program, call (800) 227-5782.
