Marcus On Selling
Your interview with Stanley Marcus (Face-to-Face, June) was outstanding. Mr. Marcus hit the nail on the head when describing the standardization of most retail markets. I, for one, am desperate to find unique, quality products in a store where service reigns supreme. Most of the sales-people I find in the department stores I shop in know little or nothing of the products they are "selling," and often don't care whether you are a satisfied customer. Maybe America's retailers will heeed Mr. Marcus's advice and return to quality products and a commitment to consumers.
