Common Sense?
This letter is in response to "Make Leadership, Not War" (Letters, April). The writer disagrees with the statement that "management is our scarcest resource." Rather, he claims that common sense is our scarcest resource.
Whose common sense? It seems to me that common sense translates into "self-interest" these days. For example, it is common sense for a defense contractor to want large government contracts and therefore to support greater defense spending. It is common sense for the semi-conductor industry to want trade protection against Japanese dumping of computer chips. However, whether these policies are desirable for the country is debatable.
