Bad Batch
There are two important elements you forgot to include in your article:
First, the product is not nearly as good as it used to be. I received samples from Debbi Fields when she used to run her little store in San Francisco and snag new customers off the streets. The cookies were superb. Later, when I had an opportunity to do so, some friends and I managed to obtain a cookie recipe from a Mrs. Fields store manager (which I still retain). I'm no expert chef, but I have compared the original recipe with the stuff they make now, and I think they use cheaper chocolate and margarine and leave out the brown sugar.
Second, the help in the stores is consistently untrained kids, overwhelmed by the crowds, unable to keep the stores clean and well stocked. The stores I've visited, particularly in the past two years, have been dirty, offered stale cookies and coffee, and had rude or "lost" help.
