Forget those booming Sunbelt cities. Whatever you may read elsewhere in this magazine, the best place to be from when you start a business is clearly Peru, Ind. The 1987 INC. 500 had ex-Peruvians coming and going, in the persons of Steve Bostic of #1 American Photo Group and Don Bailey of #500 PhoneAmerica Corp., both of whom attended Peru High School. Of course, they each had to leave Peru (population 14,000) to make their respective marks in the world. But then so did Cole Porter, another famous ex-Peruvian.
