Biotech firm has come up with a soil additive that absorbs, stores, then releases large amounts of water.

Working with scientists in Brazil and the United States, a Richfield, Ohio, company has come up with a soil additive that absorbs, stores, and then releases large amounts of water. The salt-size pellets allow plants to be left unwatered for three to six weeks. WaterWorks America says the additive also accelerates plant growth. Target markets: farmers, landscapers, and home gardeners.
