Can any company compete with directory assistance -- even if it offers more information and is free? Metro One Direct, in Portland, Ore., operates what it calls Hello Pages, a phone line that gives out business phone numbers. Revenues come from companies that pay to have extra details, such as hours of service, included in their listings.
