Psychic Depreciation

A prediction that small companies will soon face a scarcity of intellectual capital.

As we move into the 1990s, watch for a different kind of capital scarcity to plague smaller companies. I'm talking about intellectual capital. Lots of service companies were launched in the 1980s on the founder's ability to do one particular thing better than the next guy. Many of these owners have been so busy taking care of their businesses they've spent little time taking care of themselves. Unless these service providers find the means to replenish their intellectual capital, many are destined for the same fate as a young manufacturer endlessly searching for its second product.
