Free brochure to help you conduct checkups on your insurer.

Finding affordable coverage (see "Hard-to-get Property-Casualty Coverage," September 1992, [Article link]) isn't the only insurance problem companies face today. Here's an absolutely invaluable resource to help you conduct checkups on your insurer: a 23-page brochure, "How to Get Safety Information from Your Financial Institution," is available free from Weiss Research (800-289-9222), a West Palm Beach, Fla., organization well known for spotting problems at insurance companies and savings-and-loan associations.

The brochure includes perforated questionnaire cards to be mailed directly to insurers, bankers, and brokers. It also includes safety standards. (For insurers, Weiss looks for at least 50ยข worth of capital to cover every high-risk dollar.)
