Already this year, Americans have been shot at by modern highwaymen near Imala, Mexico. In Moscow a group of U.S. visitors hailed what they assumed was a taxi; the driver drove them a few blocks away, where waiting thugs relieved them of their possessions. In Nigeria tricksters, posing as representatives of a company that American investors were preparing to visit, chauffeured the visitors out of sight and robbed them.
With such horror stories as its sales instruments, a new service offers personal protection for businesspeople abroad. For a fee of 10% of what a client spends on accommodations and transportation, Air Security International, run by a veteran of Israeli intelligence, does security checks on hotel rooms, vehicles, drivers, and so forth.
