The major US car makers demand a 10% reduction in health-care costs from providers.

Meanwhile, Detroit is taking a less sophisticated, if more direct, approach to curtailing health-care costs. The major U.S. car manufacturers are simply informing providers that costs will be reduced by 10% next year (and more in the future) or else. Of course, that approach doesn't get at the causes of price increases, so complying providers will just pass more of their costs along to -- you guessed it -- small companies.
