A Chance to Be Heard

Info about the White House Conference on Small Business, to be held June 1995.

With a Democrat in the White House, a Harvard academic running the Department of Labor, and union lobbyists as plentiful as espresso bars in the nation's capital, every Inc. reader should think about getting involved in the upcoming White House Conference on Small Business. The first step is to take part in one-day state conferences to be held from April through December. There business owners will get a chance to identify key issues and concerns as well as to elect delegates to the national conference in June 1995.

Previous White House small-business conferences have been criticized for failing to address the needs of faster-growing companies. That isn't likely to be a problem this time. The event's chairman is Alan Patricof, a venture capitalist well versed in the differences between traditional small businesses and growth companies. "We are going to raise the level of dialogue about small business in this country," he told us, "as well as initiate specific legislative and regulatory reform. And I can guarantee you we will reach out to people who were not included in the past. The entrepreneurial community will definitely be represented."
