CEOs considering an employee stock ownership plan -- and anyone committed to employee participation -- should take a look at Theory O: Creating an Ownership Style of Management, a new booklet published by the National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO; 510-272-9461; $15 for members, $25 for nonmembers). In an earlier report NCEO demonstrated that worker participation makes the difference in the growth of ESOP companies.

That finding prompted this new report, which details employee participation at 20 ESOP companies, including familiar Inc. names such as WEB Industries, Reflexite, and YSI. The case studies are filled with ideas for encouraging workers to think like owners.
