By Phaedra Hise |
Managers adding portable computers to their hardware menu must also decide what software to offer. At 100 small and midsize companies, here's what off-site employees tap into:
| Type of information accessed by portable-computer users | Percentage of users |
| Database files | 66% |
| Electronic mail via the company network | 56% |
| Sales/order entries | 40% |
| On-line databases or news services | 21% |
| Electronic mail via a public network | 16% |
| Relational databases | 14% |
| Other | 7% |
| Note: Total equals more than 100% because of overlap of tasks.
