Hot Tip: Mom as Recruiter
How mom can be the key to your success.

Using Mom as the ultimate recruiting tool: That's what ATX Forms tried in an act of desperation -- and it worked. Located in Caribou, Maine, the tax-software developer found it next to impossible to get programmers to move to an area best known for its frigid weather. Finally, CEO Glynn Willett decided to publicize his recruiting campaign throughout the region. When staffers learned of the $5,000 signing bonus and $48,000 starting salary for top programmers, they called their adult children and urged them to come home to Caribou. Three did just that. An additional dozen or so young adults who were planning to leave northern Maine decided to stay. ATX realized, says director of communications Bill Grady, that its best recruits were "people predisposed to living here."
