Hands On
When employees at CCBN want to hang artwork on their cubicle walls, they don't look for the building-services guy. They call the CEO. "No pictures get hung in these offices unless I hang them myself," says Jeff Parker, founder of the $50-million Boston-based investor-relations-services company. He even schedules picture-hanging time during visits to CCBN branches in San Francisco and London. It's not that Parker thinks that none of his 280 employees can hang a picture properly, although he admits he's a stickler about crooked frames. Instead, he sees the practice as a way to "mix with the troops" in his fast-growing company, to get to know individual employees, and to send an egalitarian message about his management style. "There's nothing here I can't do, nothing here I won't do," he says.
