The Anticapitalist CEO and Her Seditious Shirt

The Planned Parenthood "I had an abortion" T-shirt Ani DiFranco wears in the lead photo for the story about her record company ["Don't Call Her an Entrepreneur," September] is in extremely poor taste. Though the word abortion is partially obstructed by her guitar, it does not lessen the full impact of DiFranco's pro-abortion views. This image so disgusted me that I did not even read the rest of Bo Burlingham's article. If this is the kind of entrepreneur you want to promote, then Inc. is no longer the sort of business magazine I want to read. By the way, if you would ever like to do an article about our Christian, faith-based company, please let me know so I can wear my pro-life T-shirt.

Upon reading Bo Burlingham's profile of Ani DiFranco and her firm, Righteous Babe Records, I couldn't help but wonder when exactly DiFranco lost touch with reality. Her lyric "capitalism is the devil's wet dream" is about as hypocritical as it gets. Capitalism is the very system that has allowed DiFranco to make a very good living doing what she loves to do. It's the vehicle that allows her to profit from real estate and other ventures. If she is so opposed to our system and way of life, why doesn't she pass up the profits, live like a pauper, and play in cafes and on street corners?

Apple Is Right to Bite Back

As a Mac user who has visited Apple resellers, and been unimpressed, I think Apple made the right decision in opening its own brick-and-mortar stores ["Apple Squares Off Against Resellers," September]. I've found that even a so-so experience in an official store is better than the best in a reseller's store. I'd even be willing to travel to a larger city just to go to one. Perhaps Apple shares have languished until recently in part because of the poor experience customers like me have had in these reseller stores. I think the consistency and quality of Apple's own high-profile stores will improve the company's bottom line in the long run.

An Excellent Adventure

Every month when Inc. arrives, I read it from cover to cover, but Riza Cruz's article "Voyage of a Lifetime" [September] is the first to prompt me to send a thank-you. I thoroughly enjoyed the stimulating account of Kip Stone's successful journey, both on the water in a solo transatlantic race and off as the founder of a $5.6 million company. While my goals in business and pleasure may differ a bit from Stone's, the account of his achievements is a motivational compass that keeps me sailing toward my own vision. Thank you.
