Kauffman Donates $25.5 Million to Universities
The grants, part of a $200 million initiative, will help foster entrepreneurship programs at nine schools nationwide.
Nine U.S. universities were awarded a total of $25.5 million on Thursday by a private foundation in an initiative to boost entrepreneurial education on campuses across the nation.
The grants, awarded by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, will go toward fostering interdisciplinary entrepreneurship programs that are available to students regardless of major, the Kansas City, Mo.-based nonprofit said.
This week marks the second round of grants under the Kauffman Campuses Initiative, which was launched in 2003 to help develop entrepreneurial courses within liberal arts, engineering, and other programs. The first round saw $25 million in grants going to eight schools.
Including matching commitments from the group's funding partners, the grants will inject up to $200 million in campuses nationwide.
"These new Kauffman Campuses schools will empower all students on campus to access the skills, orientation, and networks that can lead to greater individual opportunities and to the creation of jobs, innovation, and prosperity in America," Carl Schramm, the group's president and CEO, said in a statement.
This week's recipients were the University of Maryland, University of Wisconsin, Arizona State, Brown, Carnegie Mellon, Georgetown, New York, Purdue, and Syracuse.
