Dell to Offer iSCSI Storage Solutions
Dell (NASDAQ:DELL) has announced plans to acquire EqualLogic, an iSCSI storage area network solutions provider, for $1.4 billion. The acquisition will allow Dell to offer simplified, virtualized storage solutions to its client base.
Internet SCSI, or iSCSI, is particularly valuable to small and midsize businesses because it allows for storage traffic to occur over existing IP networks, resulting in lower costs, and easier management. Once the acquisition is complete, Dell plans to grow EqualLogic's channel partner programs with existing and future EqualLogic-branded products. The company will incorporate EqualLogic technology into upcoming generations of its PowerVault line of storage products.
The purchase is expected to be finalized by the end of 2008.
