VMware Offers Upgraded Virtualization

VMware has introduced the next generation of its user-friendly, free-of-charge virtualization product.

VMware (NYSE:VMW) has introduced the next generation of its user-friendly, free-of-charge virtualization product. VMware Server 2 allows businesses to quickly provision new server capacity by partitioning a physical server into multiple virtual machines, resulting in a simplified and more efficient IT environment.

VMware Server 2 offers a new Web-based management interface that will feel familiar to Linux and Windows users. It features an embedded virtual machine console, full management functionality and can create customized remote console URLs for virtual machine users. The upgrade also includes support for up to 30 guest operating systems, as well as for Virtual Machine Interface and USB 2.0 devices, and enhanced memory and processor support.

"VMware Server is ideal for businesses interested in quickly and easily experiencing the benefits of virtualization," Dan Chu, vice president of emerging products and markets at VMware, said in a statement. "VMware Server is a popular way for new customers to evaluate and begin using VMware software, and it allows them to easily transition to VMware's market-leading, enterprise-class virtualization platform, VMware Infrastructure."
