Broadway Stagehands End Strike
Restaurants, parking lots, and other small businesses find relief as curtains go up again.
After 19 days, the Broadway stagehands' strike that dealt New York restaurants, parking lots, and other small businesses a powerful blow, has finally come to an end.
According to Tim Tompkins, president of the Times Square Business Improvement District, the dispute between the stagehands' union and theater owners cost local businesses up to $17 million per day.
The agreement is "great news not just for everyone who earns their living on or around Broadway, but for everyone who lives in, works in, or visits New York City," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in a statement.
