Cloudshield, IBM to Deliver DPI Solution

The deal includes BladeCenter S for small firms, branch offices and retail environments.

Advanced service control and infrastructure security solutions provider, Cloudshield Technologies, has teamed up with IBM (NYSE:IBM) to develop the first carrier-class Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) solution for IBM's BladeCenter family, which includes BladeCenter S for small firms, branch offices and retail environments. DPI refers to the examination of a packet — a formatted block of data — for compliance issues, viruses, spam, or other predefined criteria as it passes through an inspection point.

The combined solution targets IBM's telecommunications BladeCenter customer base. It will help service providers deliver a cost-effective model that scales as their networks grow. CloudShield leverages IBM's Blade Open Specification to implement its advanced DPI architecture on the BladeCenter platform. The open Blade Server Based Specifications enable companies to develop and build compatible blade products ranging from blade servers to switches.

"Service providers need the agility and flexibility to rapidly deploy new services to meet their clients' requirements while protecting their valuable IP network infrastructure," Jim Pertzborn, vice president of telecommunications industry for IBM Systems and Technology Group, said in a statement. "Delivering CloudShield's deep packet inspection capabilities on the IBM BladeCenter will greatly enhance our customer's ability to control and secure their IP network traffic."
