Symantec Upgrades Backup Program

Backup Exec 12 for Windows Servers provides faster data recovery.

Symantec (NASDAQ:SYMC) has introduced the latest version of its Windows data protection, backup and recovery solution. Backup Exec 12 for Windows Servers delivers faster recovery of critical application data and extended platform protection. The new system also now integrates with Symantec's ThreatCon global security alerting system, Enterprise Vault e-mail archiving solution, and Protection Network for accessing offsite storage.

Backup Exec 12 provides disk-to-disk-to-tape backup and recovery for Windows-centric environments, including the new Windows Small Business Server. It rapidly restores data from a single pass backup with patent-pending Granular Recovery Technology, making mailbox backups unnecessary. Integration with Symantec's other security solutions provides backup and recovery of critical archives, proactive backup, and Web-based access to data stored in Symantec data centers.

"With certified support of Windows Server 2008 plus support for Microsoft's leading applications, Backup Exec 12 is a primary example of Symantec's commitment to deliver timely and efficient backup and recovery solutions for our customers' evolving Windows needs," Pat Hanavan, vice president of product management at Symantec, said in a statement.
