Startup Helps Tout Legal Workers

A new service encourages employers to advertise the legal status of their immigrant workers.

A Florida startup this week launched a service that encourages employers to advertise the legal status of their immigrant workers.

Legal Employer, based in West Palm Beach, provides official seals issued to employers who submit employment eligibility documents or pledge that all of their workers are legally documented. The seals, which are available in four verification levels, can be displayed on storefront windows and company websites. Prices range from $100 to $250, depending on the level of verification.

"Through our seal programs, Legal Employer provides businesses the opportunity to set themselves apart and create a competitive edge over those employers in their marketplace who may not be in compliance with the law," said Ted Ciricillo, the company's president, said in a statement. "We believe our seals will help to eliminate discrimination against employers and their employees who may look or sound different, but in actuality are legally documented workers," Ciricillo said.
