Linksys Launches New Router
The new router is designed for home and small office use.
Linksys, a division of Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO), has expanded its portfolio of products created for mobile operators with the new Linksys by Cisco Wireless-G Router with Two Phone Ports, model WRTU54G. The new router is designed for home and small office use, bringing Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA), an IP-based protocol, to support operator deployment of fixed and mobile services over a common infrastructure.
The WRTU54G has two phone jacks, two internal SIM card slots for multiple phone lines and UMA client software. It also features unscheduled automatic power save delivery to improve mobile phone battery life, simplified security in the form of a pre-standard version of Wi-Fi protected setup, and GSM (global system for mobile) capability over IP, enabling analog phone traffic to be carried over IP back to the operator's network.
"Linksys and Cisco are redefining the mobile experience with this new UMA Wireless-G router by delivering a powerful, yet cost-effective solution that engages customers with the benefits of fixed mobile convergence applications," Tony Wan, director product marketing at Linksys, said in a statement.
