Feds Rally Small Exporters
Smaller businesses are being encouraged to explore global markets.
With the domestic economy stalled, small-business owners are being encouraged by the federal government to seek opportunities in the global market.
Next week, the Small Business Administration and the Commerce Department are co-hosting a town hall meeting in the Miami area to press the importance of free trade agreements for small-business exporters.
SBA Administrator Steve Preston and Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez will lead the discussion, which will address the pending free trade agreement with Colombia and other federal resources aimed at helping small businesses compete in foreign markets.
In recent years, the number of small and midsized U.S. exporters has grown more than twice as fast as larger exporters.
The event takes place on April 7.
