Mozy Introduces Unlimited Online Backup Service
The new service offers two gigabytes of online backup for free.
Mozy, part of the cloud infrastructure and services division of EMC (NYSE:EMC), has unveiled its new unlimited online backup service for the Mac. MozyHome for Mac allows home office and small business users to safely and cost-effectively back up all of their digital information over the Internet.
The new service offers two gigabytes of online backup for free, or unlimited online backup for $4.95 per month. It automatically protects all computer files from data loss in the event of hard drive crash, accidental deletion, natural disaster or theft. All files are encrypted with 448-bit Blowfish encryption and transferred via a 128-bit SSL connection, the same encryption used for online banking. Later this summer, Mozy will release a business version of the service.
"Mozy is honoring its roots by augmenting its service to consumers and small businesses," Vance Checketts, chief operating officer for Mozy, said in a statement. "We've had more than 43,000 individuals participate in our public beta and have devoted thousands of hours of development to this new MozyHome for Mac release."
