New Faces on House Small-Business Committee
Jan. 24, 2007 -- The Democrat-led House Small Business Committee announced its full membership for the 110th Congress this week. Of the 18 Democrats and 15 Republicans appointed to the committee, less than half are returning members.
Last week, Committee Chairwoman Nydia Velazquez (D-NY) said the committee is also in the process of reorganizing its subcommittees. It is scheduled to meet on Jan. 31.
The House recently expanded the jurisdiction of the committee to include any legislation affecting small businesses with the exception of tax bills. Previously, the committee's oversight was limited to the various contracting, development, and capital programs managed by the Small Business Administration.
"We have a big agenda for the 110th Congress as we work to give small business a greater voice in the legislative process," Velazquez said.
