More Employees Living Paycheck to Paycheck

March 13, 2007 -- Four in 10 U.S. workers are living paycheck to paycheck, according to a new survey conducted by Harris Interactive for CareerBuilder.com.

Of more than 6,100 employees polled nationwide, 55 percent said they would have to earn more than $500 per paycheck to live comfortably, and as many as one in five employees earning upwards of $100,000 said they still lived paycheck to paycheck, the survey found.

Some 28 percent said they saved about $100 every month, while 21 percent said they weren't able to set aside anything, including 25 percent that don't participate in a 401(k), IRA, or other retirement plan, the survey said.

It also found that women were more likely than men to live on a tight budget.
