Small-Business Owners Gather in Albany
March 27, 2007 -- The Business Council of New York State on Tuesday presented its annual Small Business Day at Empire State Plaza in Albany, N.Y.
The event, which is expected to attract more than 200 small-business owners, offers employers a chance to discuss health care, taxes, and other issues with state lawmakers, organizers said.
"These are people whose ability to compete is affected by what Albany does," Matthew Maguire, a spokesman for the Business Council, said in a statement. "They have to buy electricity, they have to buy workers' compensation, and the have to pay taxes," Maguire said.
Keynote speakers at this year's event include M. Patricia Smith, the recently confirmed state labor commissioner, state Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno, and several other legislators.
