Staples Launches Office Tech Recycling Program

 

Staples, the Boston-based office-supply firm, this week launched a nationwide computer and office technology recycling program to help deal with the estimated 133,000 computers thrown away every day, company officials announced Monday.

Under the program, old monitors, laptops, printers, fax machines, and other accessories can be dropped off at any Staples outlet for a $10 fee per large item. All brands will be accepted, whether or not the equipment was purchased at Staples, and there is no limit to the amount of equipment that can be recycled, the company said.

Amandi Services, an electronics-recycling firm, will assist the stores in disposing the equipment in accordance with Environmental Protection Agency standards.

"We know that small businesses and consumers want to recycle their used office technology but are often frustrated by the lack of convenient options available," Mark Buckley, vice president of environmental affairs at Staples, said in a statement. "By making it easy to recycle, Staples helps customers take action in handling e-waste in an environmentally responsible way."
