NetApp and Oracle To Offer New Enterprise Grid Software
Network Appliance has teamed up with Oracle to develop Direct NFS Client, a new enterprise grid software tool
Network Appliance (NASDAQ:NTAP) has teamed up with Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL) to develop Direct NFS Client, a new enterprise grid software tool included in Oracle Database 11g that delivers enhanced performance, simplified management, increased flexibility, and better application availability, company officials said.
Implementing a NFS (network file system) client in the database allows Oracle to directly access NFS V3 servers. The new software will create a single, unified management configuration within a standard interface, allowing users to run applications across heterogeneous hardware and operating system platforms.
Direct NFS Client provides businesses of all sizes at lower total cost of ownership, but especially beneficial to smaller customers is the ability for Oracle Database 11g on Windows to directly use NFS protocol to install NFS filers.
