Microsoft Announces Unified Communications Software
Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), in collaboration with a roster of partners, has launched its unified communications software portfolio.
New products include the Office Communications Server 2007, software that delivers VoIP, video, IM and conferencing; Office Communicator 2007, client software for phone, IM and video; Office Live Meeting, an advanced conferencing service; RoundTable, a conferencing phone with panoramic camera; and a service pack update of Exchange Server 2007.
Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT) has partnered with Microsoft to deliver five software-based solutions to enhance Office Communications Server. Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) has plans to build its Enterprise Mobility Gateway using Office Communications Server’s VoIP call management capabilities, which will link office communications to any mobile device. A third partner, Ottawa, Canada-based Mitel Networks, will use Office Communications Server to develop a software-based solution aimed at small and midsize businesses in vertical markets.
