Alcatel-Lucent Explores Wireless Possibilities on Second Life
Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE:ALU) has launched an open contest for residents of Second Life, the social networking and alternate reality game developed by Linden Labs. The contest encourages players to envision and design the wireless devices and applications they believe will be possible in 2017.
The company has provided participants with a "sandbox" area, equipped with application development tools and simple user interfaces, where they can build their prototypes. Several design prototypes for a functional device that could be used in Second Life or in real life can be entered at once. All entries will become the intellectual property of Alcatel-Lucent.
The winner will be awarded 50,000 Lindens, Second Life's currency, and the chance to have their design built. Three runners up will also receive 20,000 Lindens. The contest helps launch Alcatel Lucent's Fourth Generation Virtual Lab on Second Life.
