Go Ahead, Take That Vacation. This Survey Says It's Ok

A new survey found that the majority of small business owners take vacation every year. So don't be the only one not taking time off.
Having second thoughts about taking a vacation this year? Well, don't. According to a survey coming out Thursday, your fellow small business owners take plenty of vacation every year.
The survey, conducted by marketing firm Yodle, found that 72 percent of owners surveyed take at least two weeks of vacation yearly, while more than one in four small business owners reported that they take at least four weeks of vacation. A mere 11 percent of small business owners said they don’t take any time off.
Through a third party research firm, Yodle surveyed 300 small businesses (in a mix of blue-collar and white-collar industries) in June 2013 with the goal of measuring the sentiment of small business owners. Most owners had between one and five employees.
Other highlights from the survey: Beyond vacation time, the survey showed that most small business owners are able to maintain a solid work-life balance, finding that a slight majority--52 percent--of small business owners work 40 hours a week or less with only 9 percent working more than 60 hours a week.
Probably reflective of their well balanced lives and ample vacation time, of the 300 small business owners surveyed, a significant number said they are content that they made the decision to go into business for themselves.
More than half of those surveyed are extremely happy with their choice to be small business owners, with a whopping 91 percent of the field reporting that they are at least somewhat happy.
