Mobile and Online: The Secret to Holiday Sales Boost

A survey found that small business owners expect nearly a third of their sales to come from e-commerce and over a quarter expect an increase in mobile commerce over the holidays.
Thanksgiving is right around the corner--and the pressure is on small businesses to make sales.
For the 2013 season, it seems a good number of small businesses expect mobile and e-commerce to account for more sales, reported eWeek, based on a survey of small business owners from Ink by Chase.
Of the 507 business owners surveyed, 27 percent said they expect a jump mobile commerce. Here are some more results:
On average, those surveyed said they expect around 13 percent of their sales to come from mobile commerce.
Of the respondents, 32 percent said that they expect an increase in e-commerce sales since 2012 and on average the group expects 30 percent of their holiday sales to be through e-commerce.
The survey also found, that younger business owners were not only more optimistic about the 2013 holiday season, but that those owners (aged 18-44) are also more likely to boost their inventory, marketing and social media presence.
Of this younger demographic, 38 percent reported plans to focus on using friends and family discounts and 41 percent have plans to focus on social network promotions over the holidays--compared to 18 percent and 24 percent for the same categories respectively for owners over 44 years.
Another finding worth mention--77 percent of the small business owners surveyed said they believe customers are most likely to pay with credit and debit cards.
