AtJohnsonville Foods, a manufacturer in Sheboygan, Wis., employees who are promoted from merchandisers tosalespeople hire their replacements. Merchandisers and salespeople work closely together, with merchandisers backingup the sales force. Because so much of salespeople's compensation comes from performance bonuses, their hiring decisionsaffect dramatically how much money they end up making.
