A poll ofcompanies on the 1993 Inc. 500 list showed 38% doing business internationally, averaging 15% of sales from abroad.The Commerce Department seconds the finding with even more compelling numbers: "very small" companies--those with fewerthan 20 employees--accounted for 12% of U.S. exports as far back as 1987.
