Here are 10 ways to generate sales leads. How many of them have you used tofill your pipeline?
1. Referrals
This always has been and always will be the best way to generate leads. Makesure you ask for referrals from current clients, former clients, people who turnyou down and even fellow employees.
2. Trade associations
Every industry has one. Join your association today. The important step isto become active in committees or on projects; that's a great way to meet andgain the respect of contacts.
3. Networking groups
They're everywhere. Some are formal, and others are casual. Scout aroundyour town for two or three. Take advantage of their free visit offers until youfind a group you are comfortable with. Again, join and be active. When you give,you will eventually reap.
4. Toastmasters
This is a different approach, but where else can you have a captive audienceof eight to 20 people and deliver talks about your business? This is not a truenetworking group, just a way to meet and develop your network. The added benefitis the improvement in your presentation skills.
5. Writing for publication
The power of the printed word is amazing. Start easy with letters to theeditor of business papers, trade magazines and your local newspaper. Move up toarticles about your area of expertise.
6. Speaking
There are numerous groups that need speakers. (And you'll develop speakingskills at Toastmasters.) Offer Chambers of Commerce, business groups, libraries,local colleges and your own trade association talks on your area of expertise.When you're ready to go to the next level, deliver your own company seminar.
7. Charity/service groups: Lions, Kiwanis, Rotary and more
Service groups and charities are full of business leaders exercising theirsense of community. Join and help. Leaders will see first hand your ability toget the job done.
8. Charity auctions
Donate some of your goods or services to a charity auction. The winner getsto sample your product (there's a hot lead) and can then point you to otherleads.
9. Directories
Visit the reference librarian at your business library. Ask to seedirectories such as SRDS, Cole's, Gayle's and others. These will list companiesand key contacts. Also check for a local business directory.
10. Look left and right
Cold calls are reality. Is there a business next door to the one you justcalled on? Stop in and introduce yourself.
