The way to keep the top talent that you attract is to let them do what they were hired to do, said Philadelphia MayorEdward G. Rendell at the annual International Association of Corporate and Professional Recruitmentconference in Philadelphia in September.
"Delegate, delegate, delegate," said Rendell, who has been in office since 1992. "Trust your judgment in recruitingthem."
He also said that managers should let their employees shine in the spotlight and not be intimidated by it. For example,one of his directors became such a star that he was often being called co-mayor. Rendell says he didn' t mind.
"I was the guy who hired them. If they do well, if they become superstars and their profile rises, then I benefit because I hired them, and it reflectswell on me."
