When asked about their expectations for the remainder of 2005 and 2006 as compared to 2004:
- 47% of CEOs expect to see substantial growth in sales
- 46% expect to see modest growth in sales
- 3% expect sales to be about the same as 2004
- 2% expect to see a substantial decline in sales
- 2% expect to see a moderate decline in sales
CEOs were asked to rate the following factors on a scale from 1 (substantially better) to 5 (substantially worse), with 3 indicating no change:
- Current economic conditions in their industry versus six months ago - 2.57
- Expectations for their industry six months from now - 2.44
- Current economic conditions versus six months ago - 2.62
- Expectations for the economy six months from now - 2.62
- Current economic conditions in their business neighborhood and immediate surroundings versus six months ago - 2.76
- Expectations for their business neighborhood and immediate surroundings six months from now - 2.58
Overall, expectations were modest, but positive.
