I gave a very brief example of a severence situation to use as a starting point to the conversation, not realizing that in some cases it would become the topic. I should add that in addition to the 16 weeks of severence, my former employee received 26 weeks of unemployment, found another job much closer to her house, and was not cheated out of a pension. As a matter of fact, she told a co-worker that she thought she was treated fairly by me. It doesn't always go that way, but I am thankful when it does. To be clear, I said 2-4 weeks in MOST cases. This would not be one of them.
