What happens when you take a deejay and cross him with a technical guru? Well, you get EarTop Technologies—a company that uses the latest designs and cutting-edge technologies to create wireless headphones.

“EarTop is definitely a synergy of two peoples’ passions,” says EarTop Technologies’ co-founder Ketan Rahangdale, who founded the company in August of 2011 with Jaiyu Ni. 

Deejaying since the age of 12, Rahangdale has always loved music, but he was sick of getting tangled in wires,. It was destiny when he met tech-savvy Ni at Babson College—together they saw the opportunity to turn Rahangdale's annoyance and Ni's technology know-how into a business. 

With 14 in-house engineers, the Tallahassee-based company is working to bring wireless technology to the masses through the use of high-quality components and design. With a wide range of products—many based on Bluetooth technologies—the young start-up hopes to make wires a thing of the past. They produce both adapters to make current devices wireless in addition to new, self-sustaining wireless devices.

“Its all about helping people lead happier on-the-go lifestyles, while maintaining quality in the products people use in their day-to-day lives,” says Rahangdale. 

EarTop hopes to have all of their products out of the research and development phase within the next three months—devices such as a Bluetooth-enabled pen that allows you to take a photo of whatever you are writing, which is then instantly sent to your phone. 

“We really want to start impacting the lives of consumers as soon as possible,” says Rahangdale. 

With the motto “Life Unplugged,” the fledgling company is hoping to use celebrity endorsements to identify themselves with their target markets. 

“We really hope to establish our name by the end of 2012,” says Rahangdale. 

Rahangdale credits the self-funded company’s success in development to his partnership with Ni. With a background in operations as a former project manager and research analyst, Rahangdale is balanced by Ni’s strong background in technology development. At the end of the day, however, Rahangdale says it will be the passion the two founders bring to EarTop that will make it successful—the company has projected 2012 revenue of $1.2 million. 

“Our passion in this venture is apparent to anyone we talk to,” says Rahangdale. “We want to be the high-end producers, engineers and designers of high-quality wireless audio-tech and other technologies.”
